JOB DESCRIPTION

Schnappa Rock, a reputable restaurant in Tutukaka, Northland, is seeking a skilled and motivated Chef to join our team. If you are a chef looking to get established in the Hospitality industry we would like to hear from you. 

 The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting the current, skilled kitchen team in managing the kitchen, ensuring food quality, and overseeing the kitchen staff. Our menu is seafood-focused and we use fresh produce from our garden, and we are located in Tutukaka, the gateway to the world-renowned Poor Knights Marine Reserve, a hub for fishing, surfing, and diving.

Please note: You should have a minimum 2 years previous experience in the above or similar roles.


REQUIREMENTS

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure food quality and presentation meets restaurant standards, with a focus on highlighting the natural flavours of seafood and fresh produce
  • Care for inventory and some ordering of supplies and ingredients, including seafood and produce from our garden
  • Monitor food wastage and implement cost-saving measures, while ensuring that high-quality seafood and produce are always used in our dishes
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations in the kitchen, with a focus on proper handling and storage of seafood and produce
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, including proper cleaning and sanitising of seafood and produce preparation areas

Qualifications:

  • Experience in a similar role in a high-volume kitchen, with experience in seafood preparation and a knowledge of seasonal produce
  • Excellent knowledge of food preparation techniques and culinary trends, with a focus on seafood and fresh produce
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • High standards of food hygiene and safety, particularly when handling seafood
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • Certificate or diploma in culinary arts is preferred
